Nigeria Security Tracker Weekly Update: June 3-9

This update represents violence in Nigeria and related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger from June 3 to June 9, 2023. 
The map depicts deaths by state. Borno State, in Nigeria's North East, is the epicenter of Boko Haram-related violence, which has also spilled into neighboring Adamawa and Yobe states, among others.

 Below is a visualization and description of some of the most significant incidents of political violence in Nigeria from June 3 to June 9, 2023. This update also represents violence related to Boko Haram in Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. These incidents are included in the Nigeria Security Tracker.

 

 

  • June 3: Bandits killed forty in Katsina-Ala, Benue. 
  • June 3: Bandits killed eighteen in Gwadabawa Local Government Area (LGA) and 37 in Tangazara LGA in Sokoto. 
  • June 3: Bandits killed thirty-one and abducted thirty in Maradun, Zamfara.  
  • June 3: Kidnappers abducted four in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).  
  • June 4: Police officers killed three cultists in Ahoada East, Rivers.  
    June 4: Nigerian troops killed eleven Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) militants in Chibok, Borno. 
  • June 5: Kidnappers abducted three in Ajaokuta, Kogi. 
  • June 5: Bandits killed two and abducted thirty in Birnin-Gwari, Kaduna. 
  • June 6: Communal violence led to two deaths in Onicha, Ebonyi. 
  • June 6: Kidnappers abducted thirteen, who were subsequently rescued and one kidnapper killed in Akoko South-East, Ondo. 
  • June 6: Troops killed four bandits in Bukkuyum, Zamfara. 
  • June 6: Kidnappers abducted four in Asa, Kwara. 
  • June 6: Bandits killed one and abducted fifty-five in Shiroro, Niger State. 
  • June 7: Gunmen killed a Catholic priest in Oredo, Edo. 
  • June 8: Bandits killed two and abducted three in Faskari, Katsina. 
  • June 9: Troops killed six bandits in Giwa, Kaduna. 
  • June 9: Bandits killed fifty and abducted thirty in Rafi, Niger State.
